This article looks into the process of “publification” of private schools in Argentina by identifying the normative landmarks and standards that shaped this sector. In combination with the enrolment, four periods stand out: i) since the Colonial time until mid-19th Century; ii) since the approval of the 1853 National Constitution and the sanction of several educational provincial laws until mid-20th Century; iii) until the 1990s, when financial contributions are systematized and new institutions of public management are founded; iv) since the 1990s, when the “state schools of private management” are incorporated to the national legislation, the school management is transferred to the provinces and the state system of financial contribution is consolidated: social polarization and educational increase with social segmentation characterize the latter.
