The article examines how the Operação Lava-Jato (literally, Operation Car Wash) was portrayed in the opinion pages of newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. To that end, editorials published between 2014 and 2017 that had the operation as its main theme were analyzed. Through framing analysis, we studied how both the operation and individuals and institutions associated with it were portrayed. Regarding the frequency of mentions, the operation made its definite debut in the newspapers’ agenda in 2015, with emphasis given to individuals associated with the Brazilian Workers’ Party. As to the frames, we found that the operation was initially praised, and was later characterized by abuse of authority and as a disturbant of the political system.
