Abstract

It is generally stated that September 11th 2001 set a new era in international politics. However, some argue that the change started with the Post Cold War. The author considers that we are going through a third world war, or a “war against terrorism” according to US President George W. Bush, that has begun in the trembling year of 1979 in the Middle East with URSS intervention in Afghanistan. It was during the sovietic intervention that the name of Osama Bin Laden first appeared and new responses and actions of muslim countries against the presence of extra-territorial states in the region emerged. This article describes the causes that made Al Qaeda declared the holy war against the United States.
