Abstract

Electoral coalitions are consequences of strategic movements that parties do in order to face elections. As any other decision during campaigns, electoral coalitions aim to maximize votes, seats, members, and private/public funds. And in many occasions, parties make use of coalitions to survive. This descriptive study contributes to empirically situate electoral coalitions in a leading role in Argentina covering the last 30 years of democracy since 1983 transition. This place in the spotlight that electoral coalitions have shown is framed by a territorialized party system competition.
