Abstract

This paper aims to fulfill two objectives. The first is to show and explain the reasons of the difficulties that the center-right parties have in Argentine politics during the last decades. The second is to expose how the Party Republican Proposal (PRO) has faced these difficulties through a subnational strategy and positioning itself as a post-materialist and non anti-Peronist party. We present analytical arguments and data obtained through a field study carried out with political cadres and leaders of Autonomous City of Buenos Aires in 2011/2012.
