Políticas públicas de equidad de género: las estrategias fragmentarias de la Argentina y Chile
Keywords:
Gender equality policies, electoral gender quotas, gender mainstreaming, Argentina, ChileAbstract
In the field of gender equality policies, the national cases of Argentina and Chile exemplify the adoption of distinct albeit fragmentary strategies. Argentina has pioneered the implementation of electoral quotas that have favored the access of women to Congress, whereas Chile has created highly innovative gender mainstreaming mechanisms for regional and international standards. Conversely, women’s presence in the Legislative has been scarce in Chile —a country without gender quotas— while Argentina lacks effective gender mainstreaming State mechanisms at the national (central) level. By means of an empirical discussion of these two cases, from a comparative perspective, this article illustrates that electoral gender quotas and gender mainstreaming are two strategies that deal with different dimensions of inequality and, as a result, are a manifestation of distinct aspects of the gender state policy.
