Studies that address gender representation in government cabinets have grown in recent years around the world and Latin America has not been the exception. However, the literature that focuses on this region is often disjointed and has little communication between them. This note presents a review of 39 works written between 1997 and 2023 that cover various regions of the world and take the proportion of women in cabinets as a dependent variable. Based on a systematic comparison between works focused on Latin America and international literature a series of limitations of studies of the region are highlighted that will serve as an update and kickstart for future contributions.
