Clivajes sociales, estrategias de los actores y sistema de partidos: la competencia política en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (1995-2005)

This article intends to contribute to the debate on the recent evolution of Argentina’s party system. It analyses political-electoral behavior in Buenos Aires City, with special emphasis on a portion of the electorate (former voters of Frente Grande/Frepaso) and on the strategies pursued by political actors to capture those voters after the party’s crisis. Through the analysis of electoral transfers between 1995 and 2005, the objective is to determine whether a realignment of the party system has occurred, by which the preeminence of the peronism-antiperonism cleavage had been replaced by the emergence of a left-right dimension. Empirical analysis with ecological regression will suggest the persistence of the peronism-antiperonism cleavage, but also the growing importance of the left-right axis, at least for a portion of the electorate and for some new political parties.
