Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to update the depictions of Argentine federalism. This analysis considers that the most common interpretation, which we will refer to as the “canonical” portrayal, is outdated. Argentine federalism no longer functions in the same way as described in the 1990s and early 2000s. This is evidenced by the results of provincial gubernatorial elections, where elected candidates do not strictly align with the expectations of the canonical depiction. This trend began around 2015 and was reinforced in subsequent elections. Therefore, it is important to document these changes in order to understand the new realities and to more accurately describe the mechanisms that persist amidst the identified changes.
